Proudly independent | Passionate about innovation | Committed to craft | America’s original craft distillery |
With over four decades at the vanguard of the American craft spirits revolution, St. George Spirits have been distilling exceptional artisanal spirits with integrity. Since 1982, St. George has grown from a dedicated eau-de-vie distillery into a diverse operation that makes a range of craft spirits including single malt whiskey, absinthe, several gins, vodkas, brandies, and liqueurs.
Then: A humble wooden shed hand built by founder Jörg Rupf making unaged fruit brandy
Now: a 65,000-square-foot hangar with a spectacular tasting room, laboratory, and a lineup of the most beautiful copper stills in the industry.
Then: a one-man operation.
Now: a diverse team of individuals passionate about artisan spirits.
The brand has grown slowly over the decades, with the craft distillation movement growing alongside them; they are now joined by hundreds of new distilleries across the country. As the landscape has changed, there’s been a lot of talk about established spirits brands vs. newcomers or big vs. small. The way St. George sees it, it’s not that small or big is better, or newer is better than older. Better is better. And with that in mind, the team has dedicated themselves to making the best spirits they can.
After 40 years, St. George continues its pledge to craft quintessential spirits to delight hedonists and genius bartenders alike—and when you taste their spirits, they hope that the character and quality of what’s in your glass will convey to you what they are all about.
Based in Alameda, CA, St. George is currently helmed by Lance Winters (Master Distiller, Majority Partner and President) and Dave Smith (Head Distiller and Blender, Partner and Vice President).
